Who this service may suit
This service may suit you if sight loss is affecting how you manage at home or look after personal daily tasks. Support is tailored to your needs, goals and level of vision.
Whether you want to learn new skills or find easier ways to do familiar tasks, we will work with you at your own pace.
What you can learn
Training can cover a wide range of practical daily living skills. This may include food preparation, cooking, laundry, cleaning, organising household items, and labelling or storing things more clearly.
We can also help you make the best use of lighting, colour contrast, low vision aids and specially adapted equipment.
Training and support
Our Independent Living Skills course usually takes place over five days in a residential group setting. Training is practical, supportive and designed around each person’s individual needs.
You will learn in our purpose-built training kitchen and other home-style spaces, with guidance from experienced staff throughout your stay.
Trying equipment and technology
You can try a range of adapted tools and equipment during training. This may include both low-tech items and newer smart devices that support everyday independence.
We focus on what works best for you, so you can find practical solutions that fit into your daily life.
A welcoming environment
Your stay at our centre is supported by friendly and experienced staff. We aim to create a welcoming space where you can learn, practise new skills and build confidence.
You will also benefit from being part of a small group, while still receiving support based on your own goals.
Costs
There is no cost for the training itself. We charge a small fee of €10 for accommodation and meals during the five-day residential stay.
If you have any questions about costs or what is included, our team will be happy to talk you through it.
