For 50 years, Irish Guide Dogs has been transforming lives across Ireland through the extraordinary partnership between people and dogs.

Founded in 1976, we were built on a simple belief: that people with sight loss and families of children with autism should have the freedom to live independently and confidently.

Today, that belief drives everything we do.

At the heart of our work is partnership—the life-changing bond between a person and their guide or assistance dog. It’s a connection that brings independence, builds confidence, and opens up the world in ways that go far beyond mobility.

But our story is about much more than dogs.

Our story is only possible because of people.

Our story is about the person who takes their first independent journey to work. The child who can enjoy a family day out with greater confidence. The volunteer who welcomes a puppy into their home. The instructor who guides each partnership. The generous donors and dedicated fundraising volunteers who ensure we provide all of our services free of charge.

For 50 years, one thing has remained constant: the generosity of the Irish public. The majority of our funding comes from people like you who believe in what we do.

Together, we have created something extraordinary. 50 years is a shared achievement.

50 Years On – And Just Getting Started

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we reflect on the thousands of lives changed, the partnerships formed, and the barriers broken.

We remember those who are no longer with us, but whose kindness and generosity continue to shape our future. Their legacy lives on in every partnership we create and every life we change. Today, gifts left in Wills fund the training of one in every three dogs we provide, ensuring that future generations can experience the freedom, confidence and independence that our services make possible. Their belief in our mission continues to walk beside us every day.

But our work is far from done.

There are still many people in Ireland who could benefit from our services. With your continued support, we will keep growing, innovating, and reaching those who need us most.

Because independence should never be out of reach.
