Ambassador Dogs

Our Ambassador Dogs play a vital role in raising awareness in their local communities.

Ambassador Dogs support our amazing Branch network who run a variety of fundraising events annually in their locality including street, church gate and shopping centre collections, fun sponsored events, table quizzes, golf classics, dinner dances and much, much more.

Our Ambassador Dogs attend a couple of these events a year proudly wearing their branded jacket or a lead sleeve to identify them as a very important member of our community!

Ambassador Dogs and their owner can also attend local schools and businesses to deliver talks about our life changing work which often inspires the community to get involved in supporting us.

How to apply

If you have a well-behaved pet Labrador or Retriever dog and are interested in volunteering, we would love to hear from you.

The application process includes assessing your dog's temperament and how they respond to your commands to see if they would be suitable to become an Ambassador Dog.

If a dog passes their assessment and is considered suitable, we will proudly present them with an Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind Ambassador Dog jacket and introduce you to your local Branch so you can begin to help us change lives. This is where the fun begins!

"My name is Ozzy, and I’m an Ambassador Dog based at the Training Centre Reception with Anne. When I was younger, I injured my leg, so I couldn’t become a Guide or Assistance Dog—but I’ve found a role I love. I help raise awareness by meeting people at events, visiting schools and nursing homes, and even assisting trainers (sometimes by cheekily distracting the other dogs!). I’m very lucky to meet so many people and enjoy lots of cuddles every day."
