INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS TRAINING
Our Independent Living Skills course helps blind and visually impaired people with everyday tasks around the home and in their local environments
Home Skills
Participants are encouraged to choose from the class content including cooking, laundry, writing skills and personal care, so that training can be tailored to meet their individual needs.
The benefits include:

- reduces stress by helping to achieve tasks in the home
- improves safety around the home
- gives greater confidence and freedom to choose what to cook
Basic Garden Management
An introductory course into low and non-visual strategies for those who may wish to begin a new hobby or independently manage their gardens and living areas.
By the end of the course participants can hope to achieve:
- A range of low vision gardening strategies
- A number of non-visual approaches to gardening
- The basis for a low impact, reasonable coast, all weather hobby
- Experience of a shared learning experience
- Exposure to specialist and non-specialist skills and equipment available
Leisure
This course is ideal for those interested in using their long cane or guide dog mobility skills to pursue increased levels of fitness, social interaction, and basic skills involved in the different activities offered. Activities will range from low to high impact sports such as swimming, orienteering, and acting workshops all of which increase spatial awareness, and improve fitness.
By the end of the course clients can hope to have achieved:
- Experience of a number of indoor and / or outdoor activities of their choosing and relevant to their fitness and health
- Knowledge of contacts and supports useful to the continuation of these activities in their home environment
- Experience of a shared learning experience
- Increased confidence and methods to achieve improved fitness
