Jacqui Browne and Cork Crew safe and sound
We received word that the crew on board Cork, Ireland’s entrant in the Clipper Round the World yacht race, needed to be rescued after their yacht struck rocks in Indonesian waters on Wednesday, 13 January. Reports confirmed that Cork Clipper was holed near the island of Gosong Mampango in the Java Sea, 200 miles northeast of Jakarta .
Fortunately, all 16 crew members are safe and sound, including Jacqui Browne who is fundraising for our Assistance Dog Programme while on the journey.
Our Chief Executive, Padraig Mallon confirmed his well wishes by saying: “It’s just such a relief to know that they are all safe and sound. Our thoughts are with Jacqui and the Cork Clipper Crew at this time. They all worked so hard to get where they were and our hope is that this will only be temporary setback.”
The 68-foot yacht is lying on a reef and has suffered damage to its hull. Details regarding whether or not the yacht can be repaired in time for the crew to get back into the race is still unknown.
