Community: Join one of our local Community based teams located all over the country including our headquarters. These teams help to plan and run a variety of fundraising events in their local communities including (but not limited to) sponsored events, table quizzes, raffles, sales of Guide Dog branded merchandise, functions and dances, Guide Dog Day on street collections, sales of annual car raffle tickets and sales of Christmas cards and calendars. Each group is open to new ideas and support from new members. Opportunities available nationwide.
Breeding Stock Holding: At Irish Guide Dogs we own our own breeding stock. Volunteers across the county hold our brood bitches and stud dogs in their homes. This work involves caring for these dogs as part of your family. Facilitating their travel to the Training Centre in Cork for breeding, and for Brood Bitch Holders, caring for Bitches during pregnancy and new litters of puppies in their first seven weeks. Temporary Boarding: When our dogs come into our Training Centre at 12-14 months old to start formal training, some dogs find the adjustment to Kennels life challenging. To give our dogs the best chance of success we have a team of Temporary Boarding Volunteers who live or work within the local area of our Training Centre on Model Farm Road in Cork. These Volunteers drop the dogs off for ‘school’ in the morning at our training centre and collect them at the end of the day. Under the direction of our training team Volunteers mind the dogs in their own homes during evenings and weekends. Temporary boarders can have an individual dog from one week to six months. have an individual dog for a period of 3 to 6 months.
