The Next Step is a new training programme offered by Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind for young adults who are blind or vision impaired. It aims to equip people with the skills to manage the transition to life in college or the workplace. The course is practical and supportive with hands on activities aimed at overcoming the challenges which participants are likely to face.
The programme is delivered by professional staff with extensive experience of working with young visually impaired people. The course content is tailored to meet the participant’s individual needs. It is delivered in a relaxed, yet focused environment. The opportunity to spend time with peers is a valuable aspect of the course.
The week long (Mon - Friday) residential course is offered free of charge and takes place at our National Headquarters and Training Centre on the Model Farm Road in Cork. A number of offsite visits to college, accommodation, retail and leisure outlets are also included.
