Marvelous May Osburne!
When it comes to consistency, there is no better example than Late-Running Volunteer, May Osburne (seen here in our Kennels Block minding Ella). May has been volunteering in the Kennels Department since the very first evening Late-Running was introduced in Feb 2001. In the nine and half years since then, she has never missed a single Wednesday evening with us. As May herself says, "It's her love of dogs, in particular our dogs, that makes giving up her time each week such a pleasure." Aside from her night-time baby sitting duty as a Late-Runner, May has made a contribution as a volunteer in many other areas of our organisation. There's almost nothing she hasn't put her hand to, from being a volunteer broodbitch holder to Cleo and Amber, puppywalking pups such as Carrie in 1982 and many others since then, as well as lending a hand in our fundraising activities. May and her Black Labrador, Hester, make a formidable team when it comes to tackling fundraising.
May has been Treasurer for our Ballincollig Fundraising Branch for over 20 years and her son Simon Osburne is a Guide Dog Mobility Instructor here at Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. Talk about dedication! Julie Simpson, our Kennels Supervisor describes May very aptly by saying 'Small Lady with a Big Heart'. Another Team Member, Elaine Walsh (Client Services) describes May as wonder women, packing so much into her free time. "Not only does she do church gate collections, dogs shows and many fundraising events for us, May still finds time for a weekly visit to a care centre for the elderly.'" Everyone here at Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind would like to thank May for her dedication and continued support. "May, you consistently amaze and inspire us. Long may it continue!"
