A day in the life of boarders!

Author: Niamh Daly
Date: Friday 25 June, 2010

Abe, Alban and Delwyn free running in our run areas A typical day in our Boarders Block varies from day to day. There can be a mixture of dogs in the block, from breeding stock to pups who come for short stays while their puppy walkers are on holidays.  Sometimes, our Boarders included dogs which have been withdrawn from training. Our job is to make sure that they have an interesting day while they are in kennels, which normally starts off with the standard feeding and spending (i.e. letting them go out to do their business). This is then followed by general cleaning. Hygiene is very important when you are dealing with as many dogs as us!

The dogs are then free run in the sand or grass in which we have agility type activities for environment enrichment, kongs to play with and paddling pools to have a splash in if its warm enough. They are also taken for walks and breaks with members of staff as well as play sessions with our volunteers.  New dogs come and go constantly - like today when one of our withdrawn dogs was return to her puppy walker as a pet.  We have two new dogs coming in for boarding from Dublin so as per usual its all hands on deck!

Puppies everywhere!

And then ofcourse, we have our C Litter puppies in the Breeding Block who have all been collected over the last two days by their respective volunteer puppy walkers.  They're gorgeous yellow Golden Retrievers - three male and five females.  Training classes have been underway with our puppy walkers and did I mention that its been a busy week!

Our C Litter names are as follows: our three males are Comeragh, Creen and Cassim and our females are Cara, Corrie, Calinka, Carenza and Chenna.  Below are two video clips taken during their afternoon feed yesterday.  You can see that in between munching, they like to play with each other, in the ball pond and with our hanging teddies and toys.  They are so cute and playful!  To view, simply click on the image below.  Please note that you will need to have Windows Media Player to view the video.
