Free-running Fridays!

Author: Niamh Daly
Date: Friday 18 June, 2010

Two Labradors running through a lovely green field with yellow flowers!Friday is a fun day for the dogs as the afternoons are spent free-running! Just as the word depicts, free-running is when all the dogs get to go out to a park or the woods and get to run free off-leash. Each trainer takes two dogs at a time and lets them have a good blast in the woods.  Not only is this a good exercise for them to practice recall and response to voice commands, but it lets the dogs shake off and 'chill' after a long week of hard work. It's great fun for the trainers and dogs alike as we get to observe the dogs having great fun together.  The dogs get so excited when they see the collars coming out on Fridays.  They watch in anticipation as the trainers double check they have all the equipment they need such as whistles, poo bags and of course, the most important thing - their doggy treats!  Its great to see the dogs enjoy themselves, playing and relaxing after a full week of working their little socks off. Not so much fun when they find something dirty and smelly to have a good roll in of course!  Free-running can often result in an afternoon bath, but it's oh-so worth it!  For them and for us!

Hiya, Thanks for all the comments! Pic is of two pet dogs not Bree unfortunately but she is doing great here in kennels and sends her woofs and regards :)

I always love my weekly free run in the park, but I love the beach the best because I get to run in and out of the sea after my floating kong and there are always more dogs there for me to chase, and I'm faster than them too! I love it if I meet a Guide Dog pup there because it reminds me of when I was one, although my beautiful mum still calls me a pup! because I've lots of energy and love to play. She says that I'm faster than a greyhound!

Hi, do you know what the dog's names are that are in the pic? I don't suppose the black Lab is Bree? We're missing her a lot here in Greystones.

Man's best friend at work, rest and play. Well done all of you. Enjoy your day of exercise and freedom - you deserve it.

Nothing like a free run - must get the gang here to pay attention to the idea of 'free run Fridays!'

That sounds great. They must really enjoy running free.
